Fashionably Late | Monroe & Pleats

Oh sunny day.  Oh sunny daaaaay!  Thank Texas for the Sun.  I can wear the clothes I love most when the sun is out and about, warming the earth, tanning my skin and what-not.

This here number has Marilyn Monroe + Addie written all over it.  I found this navy blue super-duper pleated skirt at a thrift store (see: thrifted skirts), and it immediately made me think of the famous photo of Ms. Monroe in the white pleated halter dress with the gust of air casually grazing and almost giving flight to her attire.  She wore this dress in the movie “The Seven Year Itch,” (with a title like that, I’m kind of scared to watch the movie haha!), and it has become iconic.  So iconic that artist Seward Johnson created a 26′ tall statue of Marilyn in this dress in Palm Springs, California!

The beaux did well with the Valentine’s Day gifting, as he is the one who provided the purse for this outfit.  It is so simple and so cute, a red heart and a gold chain.  I adore it =)  The shoes are just some cute and simple flats.

I found this shirt adorned with Marilyn’s face & name at a discount clothing store.  Pretty awesome, right?  I don’t often wear shirts with words or images on it because they let people define you without knowing you, but I kinda love Marilyn Monroe.  So many people judge her negatively, but I see her as a true woman – one that made mistakes, but one that also worked hard and achieved things that many women at the time were too afraid to even dream of achieving.  *insert Drake “Started from the Bottom* For that reason, she’s rocks!  I got the shirt a few sizes too large in order to achieve this fit.  It can easily be worn with shorts or jeans, tucked or untucked.

If you love Marilyn Monroe items, check out the Marilyn Monroe Collectionary (and their facebook page) for both unique and popular finds all about the late & great Norma Jeane.  That’s Marilyn Monroe’s given name, for those that don’t know.

The necklace, earrings and ring are faux rose gold with unique details and lines, all discovered and quickly purchased from Charming Charlie.  Now, to set the record straight, I am not a chunky necklace type of girl.  However, the uniqueness of the plastic petals and the opal colored stones (instead of rhinestones) on this necklace drew me in and captured me.  The blush color of the rose gold and the neutral petals and stones make this accessory easy to mix and match with myriad colors and textures.

For curly hair ladies, I achieved this hair style by washing, conditioning and detangling as usual, applying rose water, and then styling by using Talia Waajid’s Curly Curl  Creme,  some good ole’ grease, and this 3-strand twist out tutorial.

Lastly, the pink lips are a result of Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick #06, Rossetto/Rouge À Lèvres.  I love that stuff, but it only compliments my winter skin tone.  Therefore, I’m using it while I can! =)

I hope everyone had a great weekend; go into this new week with positivity and light in your minds and hearts!

Until next time, Ci Vediamo!!!
