This past weekend one of my sorority sisters rounded up a group of her friends, including me, and we got snazzy in our African-inspired attire to attend the Dallas International Fashion Event. There is something absolutely powerful and amazing about a room full of a people with pride in themselves! This room had such a great atmosphere. There was, of course, the fashion. There were a few dresses that made me want to Say Yes! to the Dress, and I’m not even getting married! Haha! In addition, there was dancing, wine =) , city officials, singers, and two hilarious hosts. The most moving parts (besides getting my LIFE from those dresses, purses and jewelry) came from the speakers, Eeefy and Ime Udoh. Eeefy spoke on domestic violence, the Chibok Girls, and the role of women in society. It was such a moving speech, I had to write down a few lines.
“A broken woman means a broken nation.”
“If you want to heal the world, heal the women.”
… and with that, here are my aweso-mazing iPhone photos from the event!
